Welcome to Bhai Gurdas College of Law.
I am happy to take up, the challenging assignment of Directorship of Bhai Gurdas College of Law, which is primarily meant for catering to the long felt needs of the educationally backward Malwa region for imparting standard legal education. Knowledge of law is essential for every citizen as ignorance of law in no excuse or defence for anyone. In modern India many laws are being passed for meeting new challenges of emerging society of information technology era having globalized and liberalized ethos. Legal Education which is of most relevance for modern India, if delivered in proper perspective, can play a pivotal role in building strong nation by imbibing productive and corrective traits at the formative years of human personality.
I find Bhai Gurdas College of Law as a befitting place for budding law graduates as this institution has requisite infrastructure of modern era which is essential for developing positive, rational, constructive and dynamic attitude in the youth so that they are able to face great challenges in life. The college has proved its eminence in legal education by showing excellent results in university examinations and selection of its students as Judicial Officers in northern India.
About the Director
Dr. Gurpal Singh has rich teaching and research experience of 45 years. He served Jammu University, Panjab University Chandigarh, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar and retired as the Senior Most Professor of the Law Faculty from Punjabi University, Patiala. His field of specialization is Criminal Law for which he is widely known, especially in Northern India. He held many academic and administrative positions such as Head of the Department, Dean Faculty of Law, Dean Research and three times member of Syndicate of the University. He has published 54 research papers in leading law journals and supervised about a dozen Ph.D. Research Scholars. His main passion is teaching. Besides teaching to law classes, he delivers lectures to the students preparing for competitive examinations especially judicial services examinations. With his hard work orientation, rich administrative & academic experience and commitment to the cause of quality based legal education BGCL is now emerging as a centre of excellence in legal education which has highly qualified, experienced and reputed teaching faculty drawn from various universities.
